One of the common habits among university students during lectures is the tendency to use gadgets at times when they should be fully focused on the learning process. This behavior has become a significant issue, as it leads to suboptimal learning outcomes, distrups the flow of instruction, and makes it difficult for students to maintain sustained attention. This study aims to examine the perceptions of student at STAI Ma’arif Magetan regarding multitasking activities in the digital era, as well as to identify the impact of such multitasking on student’s learning concentration. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation and interviews. The subjects of this study are fifthy semester students from the Islamic Education (PAI) and Primary School Teacher Education (PGMI) study programs at STAI Ma’arif Magetan. Data analysis in this study involves data reduction related to student’s perception, followed by data presentation in a narrative form, and finally drawing conclusions or verification. The research adopts a phenomenological approach, focusing on an in-depth understanding of students’ experiences related to digital multitasking and its impact on learning concentration, the findings of this study indicate that: (1) multitasking is frequently performed by students during the learning process or while completing academic assigments; (2) the applications most commonly accessed by students during both in – class and out- of- class learning include WhatsApp, Tiktok, Instragam, Youtube, and games; (3) multitasking during learning has several impacts on students’ concentration, including reduced deep work ability, conditioning the brain to continuously seek novelty, cognitive fatigue, and cognitive overload. Multitasking can decrease the quality of comprehension and increase mental fatigue. To improve thinking skills, students are required to manage their own learning processes through effective self regulation.
