ANALISIS KRITIK SANAD DAN MATAN TERHADAP HADIS TENTANG TANDA- TANDA KIAMAT DALAM KITAB SHAHIH MUSLIM
Keywords:
sanad criticism, matan criticism, eschatological hadith, signs of the Day of Judgment, Sahih Muslim.Abstract
The hadiths concerning the signs of the Day of Judgment constitute an important component of Islamic eschatological studies and are extensively documented in Sahih Muslim. Although these traditions are generally recognized as authentic within the Islamic scholarly tradition, critical examination of both their chains of transmission (sanad) and textual content (matan) remains essential for understanding their authenticity, meaning, and contemporary relevance. This study aims to analyze the sanad quality and matan characteristics of hadiths related to the signs of the Day of Judgment in Sahih Muslim. The research employs a qualitative approach using library research methods. Primary sources include Sahih Muslim and major hadith commentaries, while secondary sources consist of works on hadith methodology, scholarly articles, and previous studies on Islamic eschatology. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using sanad criticism and contextual matan interpretation. The findings indicate that the hadiths concerning the signs of the Day of Judgment in Sahih Muslim possess strong sanad quality, demonstrated by uninterrupted chains of transmission, trustworthy narrators, and corroborating transmission routes. Furthermore, matan analysis reveals that these eschatological traditions contain not only descriptions of future events but also profound moral, social, and spiritual messages that remain relevant to contemporary society. Several traditions require contextual and interpretive approaches to avoid overly literal understandings. This study highlights the importance of integrating sanad criticism and matan criticism in developing a scientific, moderate, and contextual understanding of eschatological hadiths.
